Our Story

FAN (FLAM) THE FLAMES

Everybody has a story. But, the greatest stories are those where tragedy is turned into triumph. Where a man with humble beginnings has a dream and rises above the challenges to create something lasting and great. This is the story of FLAM GEAR COMPANY.

LaMar Merchant was born and raised on the South side of Chicago. Like many, he did what was expected of him. He went to college, got a degree, married young and made it out of the South Side. But, by age 25, he was a divorced, father of one, caught up in the endless loop of Corporate America, struggling to stay afloat. He would have surely went under if it weren’t for his life raft…Drums.  He left the South Side, but its sound would forever live through him from the clanking of his mom pots and pans at age 4 through the Marching Band at Thornton High to every Jazz, Country, Rock, Pop or R&B gig he played.

However, Music is much more to LaMar than gigs…Music is his Ministry. And, out of it is where FLAM, For Loud Anointed Musicians, was born. LaMar remarried, had 2 children and settled in Houston, TX. It was there that he gave birth to his Global brand 10 years ago.  Back then, FLAM was just supported by family and a few close friends. Today, after a lot of blood, sweat and tears, FLAM has stretched far beyond Houston to the four corners of the earth and is supported by heavy hitters in the industry and amazing local cats who simply have a love for all things drums and percussion. After all, FLAM is not just a catchy slogan that drummers say, it’s the very note that binds them together. So, we ask ourselves more than a decade later, “What inspires us and our customers?” Is it the iconic FLAMBOY or Drummers vs. Everybody? Or…is it the Ministry Uniting For Loud Anointed Musicians Worldwide. Yes, in this new chapter FLAM is sparking a revival…we ask you to help us FAN or (FLAM) THE FLAMES 🔥
